WHY CHOOSE MNOHS

A LEARNING MODEL BUILT ON EXPERIENCE, RESEARCH, AND ONGOING STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Minnesota Online High School pairs strong online instruction with a deeply human support system. Students learn through teacher-designed courses, dependable technology, and regular feedback from educators who understand how to make online learning work for real people, real schedules, and real goals.

Our approach is intentionally flexible, but never passive. It is built to help students stay engaged, grow academically, and leave with a clear next step after graduation.

We design for student success by combining active learning, strong teacher relationships, and responsive support systems that evolve with the needs of our community.

Reliable Technology

Students and staff use stable online tools that make it easier to communicate, submit work, monitor progress, and stay connected across every course.

Research-Based Course Design

Our online instruction is shaped by practices that have been shown to work well for virtual learners, with regular review to keep the model strong.

Teacher-Created Curriculum

Courses are written by the educators who teach them, which keeps content relevant, rigorous, and responsive to student needs.

Active Learning

Lessons emphasize projects, application, and reflection so students can build durable skills instead of just memorizing information.

College and Career Readiness

Instruction and advising point students toward graduation, post-secondary planning, and practical next steps after high school.

Community and Leadership

We create opportunities for students to participate, collaborate, and lead so the school community stays connected in an online environment.

Faculty Training and Collaboration

Our teachers are supported by structured onboarding and regular professional learning. That means the classroom experience is consistent, collaborative, and focused on what students need most.

  • Teaching Online New Faculty Training: New instructors complete a six-week training course that prepares them to plan and deliver effective online instruction.
  • Ongoing Faculty Development: Teachers continue learning through professional development, reflective practice, and peer review.
  • Professional Learning Groups: Core teachers meet weekly to share strategies, discuss literacy and equity, and strengthen daily instruction.

Student Support Teams

Support is not left to chance. Counselors and teachers meet regularly to review student progress and act quickly when a learner needs more help.

  • Student Success and Intervention Team: Weekly meetings help the team build individualized support around student strengths, progress, and goals.
  • Racial Equity Team: Staff review data, policies, and classroom practices to promote more equitable outcomes across the school.

Deep Experience in Online Learning

MNOHS core staff has worked together in online education since 2005, and some team members have taught online since 1997. That long history matters because it gives students access to educators who have learned how to make online school both rigorous and personal.

Quality Standards and Accreditation

Our program, courses, and expectations align with the iNACOL Standards for Quality Programs, Courses, and Teaching and are reviewed annually. MNOHS is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI).
