This semester-long course introduces students to a variety of artistic media and creative techniques while exploring the fundamental concepts of visual art. Students create original works using materials such as drawing, painting, collage, and sculpture while applying the Elements and Principles of Design. Through the study of major artistic movements, influential artists, and the question, What is art?, students develop an understanding of artistic expression across cultures and time. Students also complete an independent artist study, maintain a reflective art journal, and participate in discussions that encourage creativity, feedback, and artistic growth.
