This course can be taken by students who need a fourth or fifth year course. In each semester, students will work to perfect their language skills in all four skills areas—reading, writing, listening and speaking. Each week we will be using a contemporary song from a different Spanish-speaking country as a basis for thematic and cultural discussions as well as vocabulary development. We will also be using various authentic cultural products including comic strips, newscasts, movie clips, and advertisements to enrich language development and learn about culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Each quarter we will watch a movie from a Spanish-speaking country as a basis for more cultural discussion. Students will continue to review grammar in context of the cultural products we use and have ample opportunity to listen to and speak the language by listening to the audio samples and recording spoken exercises using Voice Thread. Students will communicate frequently with the instructor through writings and oral activities and discussions.
