Preparing for Post-Secondary Math (formerly Math Skills and Topics)

In this quarter length class, students learn and practice skills needed for future math classes, college entrance and placement tests, and life beyond high school. It focuses on some of the most important concepts that are essential pieces in your math toolkit! Focus will be placed on understanding why and how math works, not simply on computing answers.  Story problems, articles, and exploration will regularly be used to see how math connects to life.

Topics covered include:

  • Fractions
  • Percentages
  • Solving algebra equations
  • Area, volume and analyzing data

Course materials: There is no textbook for this course. Students will be provided with online resources including notes, videos and tutorials.

Standards Met: This course does not fully meet high school math standards. It addresses portions of the Algebra and Geometry and Measurement standards. Elective credit will be awarded for this class.
